Description

A delicious twist on a classic, these bourbon beef sloppy joes combine rich flavors with a touch of smokiness, topped with melted cheese on toasted buns.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 oz beef bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (optional)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices of cheese (e.g., cheddar)
  • Burger buns, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped beef bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings.
  2. In the same skillet, add diced onion and sauté until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Increase the heat slightly, and add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, seasoning with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
  4. Stir in the beef broth, bourbon, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and let it cook down for about 10 minutes.
  5. Once the mixture has thickened, stir in the cooked beef bacon. Top with cheese slices, allowing them to melt.
  6. Serve on toasted burger buns, generously heaping the beef mixture onto each.

Notes

Pairs well with crispy potato wedges or a side salad; adds crunch with pickles or jalapeños.
