Description
A delicious twist on a classic, these bourbon beef sloppy joes combine rich flavors with a touch of smokiness, topped with melted cheese on toasted buns.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 oz beef bacon, chopped
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup bourbon (optional)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 slices of cheese (e.g., cheddar)
- Burger buns, for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped beef bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings.
- In the same skillet, add diced onion and sauté until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Increase the heat slightly, and add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, seasoning with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
- Stir in the beef broth, bourbon, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and let it cook down for about 10 minutes.
- Once the mixture has thickened, stir in the cooked beef bacon. Top with cheese slices, allowing them to melt.
- Serve on toasted burger buns, generously heaping the beef mixture onto each.
Notes
Pairs well with crispy potato wedges or a side salad; adds crunch with pickles or jalapeños.
