Description
A tender and succulent pork dish with a sweet and savory glaze that captures the essence of authentic Chinese cuisine.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs pork shoulder
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine (or sherry)
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice wine, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and red food coloring.
- Place the pork shoulder in a resealable bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag, ensuring the pork is well-coated, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with foil.
- Remove the pork from the marinade, setting the marinade aside. Place the pork on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then brush the pork with the reserved marinade.
- Roast for an additional 30 minutes, basting every 10 minutes until the pork is cooked through and caramelized.
- Let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing to serve.
Notes
For a smoky flavor, add smoked paprika to the marinade. Serve it with pickled vegetables or in a bao bun for a delicious twist.
