Description

A tender and succulent pork dish with a sweet and savory glaze that captures the essence of authentic Chinese cuisine.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs pork shoulder
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine (or sherry)
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice wine, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and red food coloring.
  2. Place the pork shoulder in a resealable bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag, ensuring the pork is well-coated, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with foil.
  4. Remove the pork from the marinade, setting the marinade aside. Place the pork on the baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes, then brush the pork with the reserved marinade.
  6. Roast for an additional 30 minutes, basting every 10 minutes until the pork is cooked through and caramelized.
  7. Let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing to serve.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, add smoked paprika to the marinade. Serve it with pickled vegetables or in a bao bun for a delicious twist.
