Festive pastry rolls filled with herby sausage meat, perfect for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 pound sausage meat
- 1 package puff pastry (thawed)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- 1 teaspoon dried herbs (such as thyme or rosemary)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry until it’s smooth.
- Cut the pastry into rectangles, about 4×6 inches each.
- In a bowl, combine the sausage meat with dried herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Take a spoonful of the sausage mixture and place it at one end of each pastry rectangle.
- Roll the pastry around the sausage fill to create logs, sealing the edges with the beaten egg.
- Arrange the sausage rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls turn golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For a healthier alternative, use turkey sausage or whole wheat pastry sheets. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
