Description

A moist and sweet cinnamon cake perfect for any occasion. Its inviting aroma and delightful flavor make it a favorite at gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk plus vinegar)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Extra cinnamon for swirling


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract, whisking until well blended.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, folding gently until just combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar with an additional teaspoon of cinnamon to create the swirl mixture.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared dish. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter.
  7. Top with the remaining batter, spreading evenly, then sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  8. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Notes

Best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For a creative twist, add nuts or dried fruit.
