Description

A comforting classic meatloaf that evokes nostalgia and brings family together with its savory blend of beef and spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup ketchup (divided)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a loaf pan, or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion until it’s translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, sautéed onions, breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and half of the ketchup. Mix gently until just combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in your prepared pan or on the baking sheet.
  5. Spread the remaining ketchup evenly on top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C). Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

You can substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Whole wheat breadcrumbs can be used for a healthier twist.
