Description

Butter Chicken is a beloved Indian dish featuring tender chicken in a rich, creamy sauce made with aromatic spices.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken breasts or thighs, diced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream or coconut milk (for a dairy-free option)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In your crockpot, add the diced chicken, onion, garlic, and tomato sauce.
  2. Toss in the butter along with all the spices, mixing everything well to ensure the chicken is evenly coated.
  3. Cover the crockpot and set it to low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours. When done, the chicken should be tender and effortlessly shred apart.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream and lemon juice, allowing the dish to cook for an additional 10-15 minutes until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve warm over steamed rice or with soft naan.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in spices and yogurt for a few hours before cooking. Adjust spice levels to your preference.
