Description

Sushi balls are a fun and versatile bite-sized snack combining fresh sushi ingredients without the need for rolling.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice (short-grain preferred)
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 lb raw fish (like salmon or tuna) or cooked options (like shrimp)
  • 1 cup diced vegetables (like cucumber and avocado)
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Seaweed sheets (nori) for wrapping or garnishing
  • Soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook according to package instructions.
  2. Once cooked, transfer the rice to a bowl and mix in rice vinegar, sugar, and salt while it’s still warm. Let cool.
  3. Prepare your fillings by dicing the fish and vegetables into small pieces.
  4. With wet hands, take a small amount of rice and flatten it in your palm. Add desired fillings in the center and mold the rice around them into a ball shape.
  5. Roll in sesame seeds or wrap with thin strips of nori for added flavor and presentation. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Serve with soy sauce for dipping and enjoy!

Notes

Best consumed within a day for optimal freshness. You can substitute brown rice, but it will alter the texture and flavor.
