Description
Sushi balls are a fun and versatile bite-sized snack combining fresh sushi ingredients without the need for rolling.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sushi rice (short-grain preferred)
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 lb raw fish (like salmon or tuna) or cooked options (like shrimp)
- 1 cup diced vegetables (like cucumber and avocado)
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- Seaweed sheets (nori) for wrapping or garnishing
- Soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce
Instructions
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook according to package instructions.
- Once cooked, transfer the rice to a bowl and mix in rice vinegar, sugar, and salt while it’s still warm. Let cool.
- Prepare your fillings by dicing the fish and vegetables into small pieces.
- With wet hands, take a small amount of rice and flatten it in your palm. Add desired fillings in the center and mold the rice around them into a ball shape.
- Roll in sesame seeds or wrap with thin strips of nori for added flavor and presentation. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
- Serve with soy sauce for dipping and enjoy!
Notes
Best consumed within a day for optimal freshness. You can substitute brown rice, but it will alter the texture and flavor.
