Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar in a large mixer bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Chill the dough for at least one hour to make it easier to handle.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Cut into desired shapes.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Decorate with frosting or colored sugar for added flair. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
