Description

A delightful breakfast pastry with a flaky, buttery exterior and a soft interior, perfect for various fillings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Your choice of fillings (fruit preserves or chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Mix in milk and egg until just combined, being careful not to overwork the dough.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  6. Cut into squares or triangles and place your choice of filling in the center.
  7. Fold the dough over and seal the edges, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

Keep butter cold for flaky layers and don’t hesitate to experiment with fillings!
