Description
A classic comfort food featuring tender potatoes baked to perfection with creamy textures and a golden crispy top.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 cup of shredded cheese (Gruyère or Cheddar)
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (like thyme or rosemary) for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter or oil.
- Slice the potatoes thinly using a mandoline or sharp knife.
- Layer half of the potato slices in the dish, overlapping them slightly.
- Sprinkle half of the garlic, onion, salt, and pepper over the first layer.
- Add a layer of cheese on top of the first layer.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining ingredients.
- Pour the heavy cream evenly over the layers.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Notes
For a lighter option, substitute half of the cream with vegetable broth, or use coconut milk for a dairy-free version. Pre-cooking the onions until caramelized enhances flavor.
