Description

A classic comfort food featuring tender potatoes baked to perfection with creamy textures and a golden crispy top.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese (Gruyère or Cheddar)
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (like thyme or rosemary) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter or oil.
  3. Slice the potatoes thinly using a mandoline or sharp knife.
  4. Layer half of the potato slices in the dish, overlapping them slightly.
  5. Sprinkle half of the garlic, onion, salt, and pepper over the first layer.
  6. Add a layer of cheese on top of the first layer.
  7. Repeat the layering process with the remaining ingredients.
  8. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the layers.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

For a lighter option, substitute half of the cream with vegetable broth, or use coconut milk for a dairy-free version. Pre-cooking the onions until caramelized enhances flavor.
