Description

Comforting creamy scalloped potatoes with layers of cheese and flavor, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups milk (or a creamy alternative)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the flour to create a roux, cooking for an additional minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, constantly stirring, until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer a portion of the potatoes, followed by some cheese, then pour a ladle of the sauce over. Repeat until all ingredients are used up, finishing with cheese on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, consider adding some grated garlic or nutmeg to the milk mixture for an aromatic twist. Slicing the potatoes uniformly ensures even cooking and tenderness.
