Delightful French pastries that are warm, fluffy, and drenched in sweet vanilla essence.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- ½ cup whole milk, warmed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warmed milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add sugar, eggs, vanilla, and salt to the yeast mixture and whisk gently.
- Gradually add flour, kneading until a soft dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a cloth and allow the dough to rise in a warm area for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 375°F (190°C). Fry each piece until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Dust generously with powdered sugar.
Notes
Best enjoyed fresh. For longer storage, freeze cooled pastries and reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven.
