Description

Delightful French pastries that are warm, fluffy, and drenched in sweet vanilla essence.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup whole milk, warmed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warmed milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, eggs, vanilla, and salt to the yeast mixture and whisk gently.
  3. Gradually add flour, kneading until a soft dough forms.
  4. Cover the bowl with a cloth and allow the dough to rise in a warm area for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough out on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 375°F (190°C). Fry each piece until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Dust generously with powdered sugar.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh. For longer storage, freeze cooled pastries and reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven.
