Description

Delightful festive buns filled with spices and dried fruits, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup mixed dried fruits (such as raisins and currants)
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Icing for decoration (prepared or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl. Mix well.
  2. Whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs in a separate bowl. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Incorporate the dried fruits and orange zest into the dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately 60 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into small buns. Place them on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Allow the shaped buns to rise again for about 30 minutes, then bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly before drizzling with icing.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
