Description
Delightful festive buns filled with spices and dried fruits, perfect for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup mixed dried fruits (such as raisins and currants)
- Zest of 1 orange
- Icing for decoration (prepared or homemade)
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl. Mix well.
- Whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs in a separate bowl. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Incorporate the dried fruits and orange zest into the dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately 60 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into small buns. Place them on a greased baking sheet.
- Allow the shaped buns to rise again for about 30 minutes, then bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before drizzling with icing.
Notes
