Description

A heartwarming twist on a classic, this French onion meatloaf integrates caramelized onions and melted Swiss cheese for a comfort meal that feels special any day of the week.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 2 medium Onions
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup Swiss Cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Butter or Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, add butter or olive oil and sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized, about 15 to 20 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, Worcestershire sauce, egg, and breadcrumbs. Add the caramelized onions once they have cooled.
  3. Mix everything thoroughly with your hands until well combined. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish.
  4. Spread Swiss cheese over the top of the meatloaf, letting it melt and form a delicious crust as it cooks.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the meatloaf for approximately 25 minutes, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  6. Let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.

Notes

Pair with creamy mashed potatoes or a fresh arugula salad for a complete meal. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3–4 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
