Description
A heartwarming twist on a classic, this French onion meatloaf integrates caramelized onions and melted Swiss cheese for a comfort meal that feels special any day of the week.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Beef
- 2 medium Onions
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 large Egg
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1 cup Swiss Cheese
- 2 tablespoons Butter or Olive Oil
Instructions
- In a skillet, add butter or olive oil and sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized, about 15 to 20 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, Worcestershire sauce, egg, and breadcrumbs. Add the caramelized onions once they have cooled.
- Mix everything thoroughly with your hands until well combined. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish.
- Spread Swiss cheese over the top of the meatloaf, letting it melt and form a delicious crust as it cooks.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the meatloaf for approximately 25 minutes, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- Let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.
Notes
Pair with creamy mashed potatoes or a fresh arugula salad for a complete meal. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3–4 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
