Ingredients
- 1 cup dried black-eyed peas
- 4 cups water or broth
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: diced ham or bacon, spices like cayenne or paprika
Instructions
- Rinse the black-eyed peas to remove any dust or debris.
- In your Instant Pot, combine the peas, water or broth, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
- Secure the lid and set the pressure valve to sealing.
- Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes if using soaked peas, or 15 minutes for dried ones.
- Once cooking is complete, let the pressure release naturally for about 10 minutes before performing a quick release.
- If using ham or bacon, stir it in now along with any additional spices. Enjoy!
Notes
For a vegetarian option, substitute vegetable broth and omit meat. Feel free to serve over rice or with cornbread.
