Description

A creamy and rich side dish featuring layers of thinly sliced potatoes and luscious cheese sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (can substitute half-and-half for a lighter option)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until translucent.
  3. Stir in the cream and milk, seasoning with salt and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. In a baking dish, layer half of the potato slices, followed by half of the cheese.
  5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer. Repeat the process with remaining potatoes, cheese, and cream.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For the best results, ensure potato slices are uniform in thickness. Letting the dish sit for a few minutes before serving helps to set layers.
