Description
A creamy and rich side dish featuring layers of thinly sliced potatoes and luscious cheese sauce, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 cup heavy cream (can substitute half-and-half for a lighter option)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until translucent.
- Stir in the cream and milk, seasoning with salt and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the potato slices, followed by half of the cheese.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer. Repeat the process with remaining potatoes, cheese, and cream.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For the best results, ensure potato slices are uniform in thickness. Letting the dish sit for a few minutes before serving helps to set layers.
