Description

Experience the delightful aroma of perfectly smoked salmon with this easy recipe that’s ideal for gatherings or meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 2 salmon fillets (ideally skin-on for best results)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 cup smoked wood chips (like hickory or apple)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix brown sugar, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until thoroughly combined to create the dry brine.
  2. Generously coat both sides of the salmon fillets with the dry brine mixture. Place the fillets in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or ideally, overnight.
  3. After brining, rinse the salmon under cold water to remove excess salt and pat dry with paper towels.
  4. Preheat your Traeger grill to 180°F (82°C) and soak the wood chips in water for about 30 minutes.
  5. Place the salmon directly onto the grill grate. Add the soaked wood chips, close the lid, and smoke for 2-3 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
  6. Before serving, drizzle with maple syrup or squeeze fresh lemon juice to enhance the flavors.

Notes

For a different flavor profile, consider swapping brown sugar for honey or adding herbs like dill.
