Description

This grilled sandwich features gooey cheese, savory beef, and a tantalizing sauce, marrying the best elements of a burger and a grilled cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices Gruyère or cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices rye or sourdough bread
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Secret sauce ingredients (ketchup, mustard, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize thinly sliced onions in a skillet until golden brown; set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, cook ground beef until browned and fully cooked, then drain any excess fat.
  3. Mix the cooked beef with the secret sauce ingredients until well combined.
  4. Butter one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, layer the beef mixture, onions, and cheese.
  5. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side out. Grill over medium heat until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted, flipping once.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider seasoning the beef with garlic powder or a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Caramelizing onions is crucial for the best flavor.
