Description
A beloved classic dish featuring tender chicken pieces in a richly spiced creamy sauce, perfect for family gatherings or festive occasions.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup yogurt (plain, for marinating)
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-2 inches fresh ginger, grated
- 2 cups tomato puree
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp coriander
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
- Optional: chili powder for heat
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine chicken pieces with yogurt, garlic, ginger, garam masala, and salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably for a few hours in the fridge.
- Sauté onions: In a large pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Combine chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the pan, cooking until it’s no longer pink.
- Add tomatoes and cream: Stir in tomato puree and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Then, add heavy cream, allowing the sauce to thicken.
- Final seasoning: Taste and adjust salt or add chili powder if you prefer more spice. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
- Serve: Enjoy while hot.
Notes
For best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. This dish pairs well with naan or basmati rice.
