Description

A beloved classic dish featuring tender chicken pieces in a richly spiced creamy sauce, perfect for family gatherings or festive occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt (plain, for marinating)
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-2 inches fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cups tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Optional: chili powder for heat

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine chicken pieces with yogurt, garlic, ginger, garam masala, and salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably for a few hours in the fridge.
  2. Sauté onions: In a large pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Combine chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the pan, cooking until it’s no longer pink.
  4. Add tomatoes and cream: Stir in tomato puree and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Then, add heavy cream, allowing the sauce to thicken.
  5. Final seasoning: Taste and adjust salt or add chili powder if you prefer more spice. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
  6. Serve: Enjoy while hot.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. This dish pairs well with naan or basmati rice.
