Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake that’s perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (can substitute with melted butter)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water; the batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For the best chocolate flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder. You can also enhance the flavor with a dash of espresso powder.
