Description

A delightful Eastern European cake layered with honey and cream, perfect for celebrations or cozy indulgences.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream or cream cheese for frosting
  • Lemon juice (optional, for tang)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare baking pans by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the honey and eggs, mixing well to combine.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Stir until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let the layers cool completely before assembling.
  8. For the frosting, whip together cream or cream cheese with your chosen flavorings until thick and spreadable.
  9. Layer the cakes, spreading frosting generously between each layer and on top. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

For a more intense honey flavor, opt for wildflower or buckwheat honey. Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
