A delightful Eastern European cake layered with honey and cream, perfect for celebrations or cozy indulgences.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup softened butter
- 5 large eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Whipped cream or cream cheese for frosting
- Lemon juice (optional, for tang)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare baking pans by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in the honey and eggs, mixing well to combine.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Stir until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the layers cool completely before assembling.
- For the frosting, whip together cream or cream cheese with your chosen flavorings until thick and spreadable.
- Layer the cakes, spreading frosting generously between each layer and on top. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Notes
For a more intense honey flavor, opt for wildflower or buckwheat honey. Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
