Description

A luxurious side dish featuring layers of creamy potatoes and rich cheeses, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or a mix of your favorites)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Combine the heavy cream, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  3. Layer half of the potato slices in the prepared dish. Pour half of the creamy mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half the cheddar and Gruyère cheeses on top.
  4. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potato slices, creamy mixture, and cheeses.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  6. Allow it to cool for a few moments before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

For an upgraded flavor experience, consider incorporating different types of cheese or using a mandoline for even potato slices.
