Description

A deliciously simple slow-cooked honey garlic chicken dish that’s perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • For Thickening (optional): 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken with salt and black pepper on both sides.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, ketchup, minced garlic, ginger (if using), vinegar, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Place the seasoned chicken in the slow cooker and pour the sauce over it.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours until the chicken is tender.
  5. If thickening the sauce, remove the chicken and transfer the sauce to a saucepan. Combine cornstarch with water to create a slurry and stir into the sauce. Simmer until thickened.
  6. Return the chicken to the slow cooker or pour the thickened sauce over it. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

Use low-sodium soy sauce to control saltiness. Marinate chicken in sauce for extra flavor. Skip thickening for a quicker meal.
