Description
A comforting and nutritious dish of black-eyed peas made easily in the Instant Pot, perfect for gatherings or everyday meals.
Ingredients
- 1 pound dried black-eyed peas
- 6 cups water or broth
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: smoked ham hock or bacon for flavor
Instructions
- Rinse the black-eyed peas under cold water, discarding any debris.
- In the Instant Pot, combine the peas, water or broth, onion, garlic, bay leaf, thyme, and the optional ham hock or bacon.
- Secure the lid and turn the valve to sealing.
- Cook on high pressure for 15 minutes.
- After cooking, allow for a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then perform a quick release for any remaining pressure.
- Remove the bay leaf and ham hock (if used). Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, sauté onion and garlic in the Instant Pot with a bit of oil before adding other ingredients. Soak black-eyed peas for lower cooking time.
