Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake with decadent frosting, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the creamed mixture alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, cream the butter and cocoa powder together until smooth. Gradually add in powdered sugar and milk, alternating until you reach the desired consistency. Stir in vanilla.
  9. Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Notes

For added moistness, substitute a portion of granulated sugar with brown sugar. Ensure butter is softened properly for a silky frosting.
