Description

Delightful spiced buns perfect for festive gatherings, embodying rich flavors and a sense of heritage.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup mixed dried fruit (e.g., raisins, currants)
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Combine the warmed milk, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Let it sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, spices, and salt. Mix well to combine.
  3. Gradually stir in the flour, developing a soft dough. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Incorporate the dried fruit into the kneaded dough, ensuring an even distribution.
  5. Place dough in a buttered bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area until doubled, about 1-1.5 hours.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into buns. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Prepare for a second rise for about 30 minutes until puffed up.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Glaze with egg wash before placing them in the oven.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These buns can be enjoyed with a dusting of powdered sugar or butter, and pair well with warm beverages.
